National Vigilance Centre (NVC) was established in Shrawan 27, 2059 B.S. under the direct supervision and control of Prime Minister of Nepal. It was established to create awareness against corruption and activities related to preventive side against corruption. The main theme of this center is based on the proverb as "Prevention is better then cure" through preventive and promotional measures to act against the corruption activities with effective good governance. Various efforts have been made in the past to fight against corruption. And NVC is a milestone in this context. It is instituted as per Chapter 4 of the anti-corruption Act, 2002.
NVC is mainly established to play a preventive and vigilant role in order to ensure good governance by creating fair economic discipline, moral ethics and transparency. Therefore, NVC was formed according to anti-Corruption Act, 2059 B.S. in order to mitigate the corruption activities in effective manner and to build a corruption free society.
At first, the public must be aware about the eradication of corruption. In the context of Nepal , literacy rate is low. Even the citizen of the country is not aware about the fact that the Government is managing the state from their public money paid as tax. The unawareness of the people made rampant corruption within the society. Therefore NVC is working about the people concerned issues to bring improvement in Government/Public sector services and finally to create the situation that discourage any kind of corruption activities in future. The center especially focus on the preventive and promotional activities.
